Experiment first. Test patches on the walls you have in mind, view them under different lights through the day, and try swapping cushions or fabrics around them. That way, when the time comes to paint, there are no surprises.

Inspiration is everywhere — that small jolt when your eye catches a colour or pattern is usually a clue. If a single shade isn't standing out, gather inspiration: photos you've saved, nearby landscapes, even storefronts that have caught your attention.

An easy formula: three colours. One dominant, one secondary to support it, one accent for contrast. The result can be bold or muted depending on which you choose — there's no wrong answer, just take the time to picture how each shade plays off the others before committing.
